Policeman remanded for murder of 16-year-old boy

GEORGETOWN/ PATENTIA -The 30-year-old police constable accused of the shooting death of 16-year-old Kelvin Fraser was today remanded to prison on charges of murder.

The indictment comes some three weeks after the incident occurred.

The police officer was arraigned before Chief Magistrate, Melissa Robertson-Ogle in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, and was remanded to prison.

He will sit behind bars until July 9, which will mark the commencement of the Preliminary Inquiry at the Wales Magistrates’ Court.

Kelvin Fraser was shot in the back of the neck near the Patentia Secondary School. He was reportedly fleeing from a van-load of officers.

The incident saw mass protest action from the victim’s family and school community, all calling for justice.

The officer was transferred to the Lusignan Prison where he will be housed until his next court appearance.
